About Kaylee

Hello, I’m Kaylee DeWitt, The artist behind DeWitt Glass Design. All of my stained glass pieces are handmade by me in my home studio in Canton, Ohio.

I have always loved art and my artistic desires were encouraged. I have fond childhood memories of going to Columbus art museums and galleries with my grandfather. I was given so many children’s art supply variety kits for Christmas. You know the kind – the ones where the colored pencils and crayons never worked quite as they should. I even dressed up as an artist for career day in elementary school, complete with a paint smock and paint pallet. But eventually, I gave up on art. I was discouraged in school. Art classes were focused on realistic paper and pencil drawings, and I wasn’t good at that. So, I quit making art.

It turns out, there are other ways to make art, I just had to rediscover them as an adult.

Jump forward to 2018. I had just quit a job that left me in tears nearly every day. I yearned to do something creative. After researching art that I could make – preferably with lots of tools that could be bought at the hardware store – I decided to try to teach myself stained glass. Getting into stained glass is expensive, so my husband told me that if I quit, I needed to sell everything to get some money back. But, I quickly learned that I was good at making stained glass. I have only acquired more tools since then.

During this time, I began desiring a business of my own. With unfortunate timing, I turned stained glass into my job in January 2020.

My art frequently features flowers, nature, and feminine figures. However, no themes are off limit as I desire to constantly learn and to create bigger and more complex things.
